GALLATIN CANYON WOMEN’S CLUB President’s Message 2024
We celebrate our 97th season this summer! I am very proud to serve as President of the longest-running organization in Big Sky, especially as we anticipate our Centennial Celebration in a few short years!
My great thanks to each of you for an active, enjoyable, and memorable season in 2023, including a few new iterations: including spouses/SO’s for an amazing update of the Yellowstone National Park since the June 2022 floods; talks by MSU professors on Native American history and Yellowstone ecology; and field trips to Jack Creek Preserve and the Museum of the Rockies. Since these were so popular, our Program Committee crafted another amazing line-up of programs for this summer, including requested topics regarding Artificial Intelligence, the importance and impact of public land, a gathering at Jack Creek Preserve of our Club with the Madison Valley Woman’s Club, and panels on the Farm to Table industry as well as Preservation of the Gallatin River. Please note these dates and times for the coming season’s meetings on the 2024 Meetings page on this website: most occur monthly on second and fourth Wednesdays at 1:00 at BASE, but others are shifted to accommodate potential new members/SO’s/sites: we don’t want you to miss any of our meetings.
Our Board worked diligently throughout the off-season to complete our Club’s business: Vice President Amy Wisniewski; new and past Treasurers Ann Scheder-Bieschin and Sheila Krieg, respectively; Co-Secretaries Jennifer Reed and Rosemary Volosin; and Past President Stacey Chapman. Earlier this winter, we feted Sheila as she leaves the Board and thanked her for her tireless efforts to strengthen our Club over many years.
Last year’s recipient of our $6,000 Scholarship was Jessie Bough, a very talented young lady who’s enjoying her freshman year at Stanford. The criteria for our recipient shall change going forward; please speak with Ann Scheder-Bieschin and/or Maude Glore if you wish more details. Beyond this scholarship, we raised over $9,600 in philanthropic funds to benefit various community organizations.
As you likely know, we are a member-driven organization: your ideas and suggestions for future programs/organizations to support, or how we manage the Club are always welcome. Please consider participating in one or more of our committees to meet more members and strengthen our Club.
The Board joins me in wishing you a healthy and happy New Year; we all look forward to our meetings and gatherings this summer.
